Rob Smith is an Research Associate in the School of Computing Science at Newcastle University.

He has industrial experience of building and delivering large-scale software platforms, particularly within the telecommunications and Internet industries.

His research interests include the deployment and management of distributed applications on the Grid. With increasing numbers of companies outsourcing greater portions of their IT infrastructure, some means of deploying and managing potentially long-lived distributed applications on the Grid is required. This covers a broad spectrum of effort, ranging from how to provide adequate descriptions of distributed applications to mechanisms for component deployment and redeployment to take advantage of a dynamic computing environment.
